All too common in Busia, Amisi’s father has three wives. Aside from the moral issues of polygamy, such a family arrangement often leads to especially difficult outcomes for the children. In addition to his six siblings, Amisi has 15 step-siblings. His parents’ jobs do not pay nearly enough to feed this many children, let alone send them to school. The sustainable model at GHM has opened the opportunity for education to Amisi. He recently completed his primary exams at GHM and is now joining secondary school. Amisi resides at GHM in one of the housing units where he helps run the sustainable livery project on campus. His favorite subject is science and he hopes to someday become a mechanical engineer.
